The much-awaited 2025 mythological drama Kannappa, directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh and starring Vishnu Manchu, finally hit the big screens on June 27, 2025. With an impressive cast that included Prabhas, Akshay Kumar, Mohanlal, Kajal Aggarwal and Mohan Babu in cameo appearances, the film created a strong buzz across India.

On its first day, Kannappa collected around ₹9.35 crore net across the country, making it Vishnu Manchu’s biggest opening film to date. However, despite this encouraging start, the film saw a significant drop over the weekend, earning around ₹7.15 crore on Saturday and around ₹7.25 crore on Sunday. The total weekend collection was around ₹23.75 crore net, which was far below expectations considering the reported production budget of around ₹200 crore. By Monday (Day 4), initial trade estimates indicated a sharp decline, with collections falling to just ₹0.09 crore net, hinting at an initial slowdown in its theatrical run.

Releasing in multiple languages including Kannada, Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam, the film was released targeting a pan-India audience. Telugu emerged as the dominant market by recording an occupancy of around 39.9% on Sunday, while Tamil and Hindi recorded 24.1% and 22.7% occupancy respectively.

Despite this news, the dubbed versions could not sustain that momentum, leading to the film’s overall poor showing. Critical response was mixed: while some praised the performances of Vishnu Manchu, Prabhas and Akshay Kumar, others found the first half lacking in engagement, though the climax was appreciated. The film’s devotional content and big-budget visuals initially attracted audiences.

In terms of box office analysis, Kannappa’s weekend collection of ₹23.75 crore was just 12% of its massive budget.
